We offer increased research, development and high level training in the following areas.

If you would like to know more please email us or fill in the form and we will be in touch with more details.

Clean fossil fuels and carbon abatement

Clean fossil fuels and carbon abatement technologies

The research focuses on near zero emission coal and gas power generation, encompasses emerging CO2 capture technologies, biomass co-firing, oxyfuel combustion and high temperature materials for improving efficiencies and lifetimes.

Demand reduction and management in buildings

Demand reduction & management in buildings

The research focuses on occupant behaviour, policy, regulation, socio economic drivers and barriers to energy demand reduction in buildings. It also explores the development, characterisation, implementation and assessment of technologies for improved energy efficiency and utilisation in buildings along with social/user acceptability of these systems.

Energy storage

Energy storage

The research examines ways in which to address the mismatch between energy demand and generation and improve effective utilisation of efficient energy storage. It focuses on thermal energy storage, biofuels, chemical energy storage, compressed air and advanced battery technologies.

Fuel cells hydrogen production and storage

Fuel cells, hydrogen production and storage

The research looks at the testing of hydrogen and fuel cells for vehicles and for power systems in buildings. Higher efficiencies and lower emissions are the key benefits, and zero-carbon is the ultimate aim of this technology.

Power electronics and electrical networks

Power electronics & electrical networks

The research investigates how electrical energy conversion and conditioning technologies, enabled by power electronics are an essential component of all future sustainable energy scenarios, and underpin the emerging low carbon economy.

Solar wind and biomass energy

Solar wind and biomass energy

The research covers solar, wind and biomass renewable energy systems and focuses on resource assessment and optimisation, components and systems, integration within the energy supply system, condition monitoring along with durability and long term performance.

Sustainable societies

Sustainable societies: economics, policies, practices and impacts

The research looks at how people use energy, and at what cost. How are government energy policies and legislation decided? What effects do these policies have upon industry and society?

Sustainable transport advanced engines

Sustainable transport, advanced engines & systems

The research looks at raising powertrain efficiencies under real-world operating conditions, addressing the technological challenges of using biofuels, developing new combustion systems and reducing engine losses.
