UK Low Carbon Energy for Development Network (LCEDN) inaugural meeting

We have a great pleasure to invite our students to the inaugural two day meeting of the UK Low Carbon Energy for Development Network (LCEDN),

The LCEDN has been formed to bring together researchers, policy-makers and practitioners from across the United Kingdom to expand research capacity around low-carbon development in the countries of the Global South. Its aim is to link existing expertise in international development, renewable energy transitions and science and technology studies in order to enhance and support interdisciplinary research, learning and policy formulation for this increasingly important and rapidly changing field.

Their first event that will take place on 4th and 5th April 2012 promises to be a fascinating experience with participants drawn from across a massive diversity of academic communities, government departments, private sector organizations and NGOs, as well as a wide range of different countries. Among the invited guests will be 17 international participants drawn from countries as diverse as India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Guatemala, Brazil, Nicaragua, Tanzania, Nigeria and South Africa.

MEGS can provide a unique opportunity for 10 of its students to participate in this event. If you are able to commit to attending the whole of the event we will cover costs of full registration fee, including accommodation and subsistence on a day.
If you are selected to participate then in return for covering your costs and allowing you access to what is an invitation-only event, we would ask that you participate in the whole event, that you assist with the running of the event (this may involve taking a stint on the reception desk, recording discussions in breakout sessions etc. There will also be a poster session where you will be encouraged to present an overview of your own research (although this is not a requirement of participation).

How to apply?

Please send  a letter of application (no more than a single sheet of A4) which includes your name, institutional affiliation, department and thesis title, together with an explanation as to why you would like to attend the event and how you think that you would gain from participating to MEGS Administrator. There will be a maximum of 10 places available for MEGS students.

Application Deadline: 5th March 2012

More details about the event will be published soon.
